CURRENT ISSUES:
DO YOU EVER HAVE TROUBLE VOTING
ON ELECTION DAY?
Operating Engineers sometimes face obstacles in trying to vote on Election Day. However, if you follow these simple steps you will never miss casting your ballot again!
About 30 days from the Election ask yourself: Can I foresee something which will prevent me from going to my voting precinct between the hours of 6:00 AM until 6:00 PM on election day?
If the answer is YES or if the answer is MAYBE you need to vote "ABSENTEE BALLOT".
THE GOOD NEWS IS IT'S REALLY SIMPLE!!!
Absentee Voting takes two different forms:
1. You may vote an "Absentee Ballot" on a voting machine in your County Clerk’s office
for at least 12 days before the election. (Some offices allow voting up to 30 days before the election.)
Go to the Clerk's office & tell them why you can't get to the polls on Election Day, ie working out of town OR your working hours do not provide you an with opportunity to vote, etc. (Check the links below to view acceptable excuses. No one is going to give you the 5th degree on this.) You will be directed to a voting machine. Then cast your ballot and walk out knowing you have done a great thing!
2. You may also request a "Mail In Absentee Ballot" from your County Clerk’s office.
Use this method if you can't get to your County Clerk’s office as described in 1. (Click on the links below for complete info on this process.)

On the subject of politics... think back to the time when the American Worker was strongest. It was the same era when Unions were strongest! Union members were "United In Action" and because of this strength...
...ALL WORKERS BENEFITED!
For Unions to have political strength they must be capable of delivering their membership to the polls in large numbers & in support of endorsed candidates. Without that ability, a Unions political impact becomes fragmented and their capacity to influence political issues to the benefit of the membership and all workers simply evaporates!
Yes, your vote is important!!!
When Local 181 endorses a candidate we are asking the membership to...
..."Unite In Action"!
When Local 181 endorses a candidate you can rest assured that endorsement is based upon...
...a record of support on issues that effect
working people the most, period!
Local 181 will post a list of "Endorsed Candidates" in the near future. Please check back or consult an upcoming newsletter for this important information. Thanks!
PAST ISSUES & RESULTS:
GREAT JOB!!!
Read below to see what you helped accomplish!!!
Responding to a call to action, an estimated 5,000 Kentucky Workers showed up at Frankfort to protest Gov. Fletchers "Low Road To Lower Wages". Check out the Photo Album for more pics of Local 181 members and activities.
Labor is credited for stopping the unfair and unjust anti-labor agenda put forward by Governor Fletcher. A big THANK YOU goes out to all the members who attended the rally and those who contacted their legislators to tell them to oppose anti-worker legislation.
