IUOE Apprenticeship Program
The Operating Engineers Local 181 Apprenticeship and Training Program is a central component in assuring that Local 181 members are highly skilled and motivated. The program is jointly administered by Local 181, Building Association, and the Highway Association. Both training centers offer year-round training for Local 181 members to brush up on skills, become certified in a sought after skill, or learn new ones. Local 181 members can use the training sites to become certified in equipment that many companies require operating engineers to obtain before they can work at their facility. Indoor training facilities have recently been added to both training sites, so regardless of whether members may train and upgrade their skills year round.

Apprenticeship Program: Local 181 maintains an Apprenticeship program geared to provide a novice Operator the necessary instruction to become a skilled Operating Engineer. Local 181's approach of combining classroom and hands-on professional instruction as well as on-the-job training turns out journeyperson Operating Engineers with the ability to be a valuable component of Local 181's organization and the contractors he/she will work for. For more information about applying for the apprenticeship program, contact the training facility nearest you.
